Exam Friday! Recommended review: chapter reviews in textbook from 5 and 6 (focus on power and efficiency in chapter 6) - answers in teacher's edition available to anyone, anytime, in my room.
Today we continued discussing respiration (opposite of Photosynthesis) in the context of energy in our bodies. The worksheet from last week (get a copy here) is due tomorrow.
The concept of how we lose weight (breathe in O2, breathe out CO2) was a fun surprise to some classes and led to lively discussion.
Classes also had a review (kind of like a quiz, but it's just for 4 pts) on Energy - our A+ Objective #3 assessment, and then problems to work on the back side.
These worksheets were graded (the front side) and the back side is recommended - I will give answers in class tomorrow (Tues.)
Tuesday we'll also take on a fun endeavor; determining stopping distance for a car moving at various speeds. We know everything necessary to undertake this task, and we'll have bonus points for the best guesser vs. our theoretical measurement in each class.
Wednesday will be more use of the idea of Work: Force * distance and we'll apply the idea of work and conservation of energy to simple machines in some fun demonstrations. Efficiency will be discussed afterward, as nothing is actually 100% efficient or ideal (without thermal E taking some energy away) - no such thing as a perpetual motion machine!
Thursday we will finish video(s) on car crashes, discuss, and have some notes/demonstrations on E transfer (mainly dealing with Thermal E)
