Week of 9-23

Tuesday:  turn in homework

Notes/Discussion/Demonstrations: Inertia

Answers to HMWK

show new optional assignment:  Forces in 1D  (no, not the boy band)

HMWK due Thursday:
p.92#10-15,18-20,23-26  (show some work)

Recommended extra practice:
p.880#29-33

Wednesday:  more Inertia demonstrations and 2-D motion application:  Free Fall and Satellites (notes on the board)
We will draw a few diagrams involving forces at work during acceleration too.

Thursday:  Human graph matching: review concepts of position, velocity, and acceleration with your own bodies.

Friday: Graph matching: RollerCoasters
HMWK due Monday:  Pre-lab for Friction Lab - Lab to be done on Monday, so bring lab journals or whatever you're using to record labs.
Have all the pre-lab work finished and ready to go on Monday, including setting up your data table.  (we will have some class time to brainstorm your procedure, IV, etc. with your group)

Week of 9-15

Notes: Acceleration

Tuesday we reviewed and worked on some ranking task exercises involving change of velocity and acceleration.

Wednesday was the test on density, measurement, conversions and SI, and basic motion.

Thursday:  See test stats; High Score 44/49 possible by a 5th period student.
Curve set to 40 pts.
Check your test, see questions you missed and discuss correct answers.

Notes/demonstrations:  2-dimensional motion; Projectile Motion!!!

HMWK due Tuesday:  Read p. 81-86, p. 86#1-7

Week of 9-8

This week is all about motion - we finished notes on relative motion Monday (see older link) and worked some practice problems involving relating motion of two objects to one another.
Tuesday we did graph analysis and motion maps in our notes - copy from a peer if you missed it - they don't translate to the computer well.

Wednesday we are graphing the (fake) data from our motion maps yesterday - showing what acceleration looks like on both a position - time graph and a velocity - time graph, and showing how the slope and its units from each graph relate to what is happening to the object.

We also did a short activity with a wheel and axle, and described its motion with a graph sketch and a motion map, and reviewed the density topic.

Thursday we worked on this worksheet and watched a video clip on acceleration and what it means

Friday we will have a quiz over material from this unit; graphs, motion maps, and relationships involving position, speed, displacement, velocity, and acceleration.

HMWK:
Read p. 76-80, p.80#1-7  Due Thursday
Ranking Task W/S Page 1 AND Page 2 (handed out in class Wed) Due Friday - be sure to show some calculation or explanation!

Exam on Measurement, Density, and basic Motion will likely be next Wednesday

Thursday, September 4, 2014

Thursday, 8-4

Today in class we will get to our motion notes (see previous post for a link) and work heavily with graphing the motion of different objects - it was supposed to be the focus of yesterday's "graphing motion" activity with the ping pong balls in the tubes, but I think many missed the point; I will be repeating today at the end of the slideshow to make sure we all understand the concept.

If we have time at the end of class we will discuss the answers you gave on the "growing and graphing" WS from Tuesday, and maybe the answers to today's homework that is turned in.

HMWK for Monday:
P. 879 #21-26
Show work with units!
